Silicone Over Mold 3D printable Respirator
There has been a huge shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) during the current pandemic. Many makers have responded with innovative ideas using 3D printers and other forms of distributive manufacturing. An issue with 3D printed respirators, such as the Montana Mask, is that they are rigid and do not form a proper seal against the users face. My solution was to modify the Montana Mask and design 3D printable molds to allow for a silicone section to create an over mold. This creates a seal against the user’s face and increases comfort. Many medical and other essential workers need to wear surgical masks during their shifts which can be very comfortable on a 12+ hour shift. I have been printing various designs around the clock that people have uploaded to Thingiverse. I have shipped this to doctor and nurse friends across the country, and suggest anyone with an available 3D printer to do the same if they are not already plugged into an organized ppe group.
